Careless negligence

 Careless negligence

It has been almost a week and the rain has not stopped. Adhaar is dim even during the day. Cows are not getting proper food. Goal is confined in the house. The cowshed is very slippery with dung and cow urine. I am Tepa. My name is given by grandmother.

Father gave me the responsibility of taking care of the cows. Sitting on the balcony of the house, thinking how to add food to the cows. There is no way to cut the wet grass in the rain. If you get wet in the rain, the fever will come again. Medicines are not easily found in this house.

Father can't feed eight people, medicine is beyond imagination. Slowly evening approached. I came to the reading room after eating half of the cows.

I have to go to school tomorrow even if it doesn't rain in the morning. It goes without saying that there is absolutely no habit of missing school. It has been drizzling since morning. Fields, paddy fields are drowning and waiting for the water to recede.

I left for school with two handfuls of boukhuda (a kind of small rice-like boiled food) in my mouth after putting on a worn-out lungi and a dirty shirt at the collar.

After going some distance, it gets wet in the rain and is almost alone. Chhale Dada's house is next to the road. I entered there. Taking a bottle, I went to the side of the bamboo grove.Seeing that it was too big, I cut a foam leaf on my head, just trying to make up for the lack of an umbrella.

When I reached the school, no student had come. It's a rainy day, and the atmosphere is gloomy.

I came back home drunk.  There is no one at home except Tepa alone. Everyone has gone to Nana's house. I heard that he is very ill. There is not even a drop of food in the house. The rain subsided in the afternoon. There is a glimmer of sunshine.
